Allen Sessoms, Ph.D.
Dr. Allen Lee Sessoms is the president of the University of the District of Columbia. Prior to this position he was the president of Delaware State University. Under his leadership, the university developed its first ever doctoral programs and now offers doctoral degrees in applied mathematics and theoretical physics, and in educational leadership. Dr. Sessoms also served at Harvard University as a fellow and lecturer of Public Policy at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs in the institution’s John F. Kennedy School of Government from 2000-2003. He also served as president of Queens College, which is part of the City University of New York, from 1995-2000. After earning his undergraduate degree from Union College, N.Y. in 1968, he completed a Master of Science Degree in Physics at the University of Washington in 1969. He later earned a Master of Philosophy Degree in 1971 and a Doctor of Science Degree in Physics in 1972 at Yale University. In addition to his native English, Dr. Sessoms also speaks Spanish, French and German.
